Are your mattresses flame retardant?

For Cocoon by Sealy models and hybrid mattresses (foam + innersprings)

Our mattresses are made without chemical flame retardants. Instead, we use a flame barrier crafted from a blend of rayon and polyester, which allows the mattress to pass rigorous fire‑resistance testing and meet all federal, state, and local fire regulations—including the National Flammability Standard. For more details on fire safety regulations, visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission at www.cpsc.gov.

For all other foam-only models

At Tempur Sealy, we choose raw materials and manufacturing practices with safety, quality, and environmental responsibility in mind. All Tempur Sealy products comply with applicable laws and regulations, including those set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and California Proposition 65.

While some manufacturers use exposed, brittle fiberglass—known to crumble easily and associated with skin irritation—Tempur products take a different approach. Our mattresses use a core‑spun glass fiber technology, where amorphous glass is encased in a flexible protective sheath. This material is built into the mattress’s internal design, remains fully enclosed and inaccessible during normal use, and stays protected even if the cover is removed.

This core‑spun glass fiber is used only in the protective fire sock—never in the foam or the mattress cover. We conduct regular independent testing to ensure continued safety, quality, and full regulatory compliance across all Tempur Sealy products.
