What is proper support? Sealy® mattresses require a solid, elevated surface to perform as designed and deliver your best sleep ever.
The best way to achieve this is through one of our flat foundations or adjustable bases. Improper support can damage your mattress and void your warranty, so we recommend carefully considering the base used for your bed.

Can I use a traditional box spring?
No, traditional box springs have too much "give" to properly support your mattress. Using a traditional box spring will void your warranty. We recommend using one of our flat foundations if you are used to using a box spring to support your mattress.
Can I use plywood?
We don't recommend using plywood as it can trap moisture and void your warranty.
Can I use a slatted bedframe/platform bed?
You may be able to use a slatted bedframe as long as the slats are at least 3 inches wide and no more than 4 inches apart, structurally sound, and can support the weight of the mattress and its occupants.
Can I use a Murphy/wall bed?
Yes, our mattresses work with Murphy beds, as long as the flat wooden frame is strong enough to adequately support the mattress and occupants and meets our slat requirements. Slats must be at least 3 inches wide and no more than 4 inches apart. We recommend that you do not fold the bed into the wall each morning since the mattress is best protected by resting on a flat horizontal surface at all times.
Can I use a futon base?
No, keeping your mattress folded in a futon will damage the product and void your warranty.
Can I place my mattress directly on the floor?
No, placing your mattress on the floor can trap moisture and void your warranty.
